Mickey Smith very kindly sent me some of his shots of Ben Howard ripping in Co. Clare on Mick’s dh bobsled. I don’t know Ben, but I know that he makes beautiful music on land and water alike. I’m a sucker for double tracking on vocals. Fall for his ‘old pine’ yourselves.

Nora Ruido Doidge-Harrison entered the world in a flurry of dark hair last Thursday. The mad surge of emotions that were running high on her arrival have softened into moments of calm, un-bridled love and more than a few of sheer terror.
Please indulge myself and Raquel as we show off our new daughter…

Some of my sanding back-log. When I work to a deadline I tend to keep shaping and glassing boards but leave the fins and sanding for some other day. In my head the boards are sitting there curing, which is like getting ahead. Sort of. Anyway, eventually I run out of space in the sanding room too…

I somehow found myself talking to Colm Hayes on 2FM this morning. The subject was skinny dipping and they were interested in my tale of ‘skinny surfing’ on my last surf trip to the Philippines in ’06. Check the podcast of the broadcast
To give a bit of context, myself and Martin H were surfing a new wave he’d found in the Surigao Del Norte province. We had motored out in Martin’s pumpboat at first light and so my naked antics in the half light were not that revealing and I didn’t get a sun-burnt ass. Lovely sensation though.
Here is the set-upĀ in question:
and the peanut gallery – Bebit, Martin and Walter…
Sadly, Walter passed away a few years after this. Here’s to you, Walter.

Cian from westcoastsurfer got in touch. Their webpage now links in some technologically out-there way, to mine! He’s hoping it becomes a centralised resource hub for all things surf related to do with Ireland. I hope we can help each other out. Shouldn’t be too hard, especially if he’s looking for commentary on the progress of the pregnant wives of irish surfers…

Something happened yesterday that I’ve always hoped never would. I managed to flick a small drop of catalysed resin into my eye while I was installing a fin system into a board. A few months ago I got this diphoterine eye-wash and figured it would just slowly gather dust in a forgotten corner. I got it on the eye in about five seconds and 30 odd hours later there don’t seem to be any side effects. Lucky boy now wearing eye protection full time. Dodged a bullet…

Our friends at the council unsurprisingly just voted to approve the planning application for the new pier in Doolin. I attended the Coucillor’s meeting on Monday and watched it all go down. They were full of admiration for the County Manager’s work in preparing the application and also very pleased with themselves that they had ‘extended’ the consultation period to allow for everyone to really have their say.
I then went and surfed crab in the sun with a pod of dolphins for company.
